Interesting. Article says they're not standard Redeye engines but have upgraded valve trains, rods, pistons, and a fluid crank dampener. I'd like to know the specs on the rods and pistons and valve train stuff.
I've now seen a second report that whatever this #7 car is will have an electric supercharger. I hope that's just people trying to throw everyone off. If it does in fact have an electric supercharger I have ZERO interest. It's like c'mon quit trying so hard on this electric BS and stick with what works. Trying to do an electric supercharger will be much more complex and God help you trying to work on it down the road. If you wanna do something different just to say you did put twin turbos on it.
A few years back when the 5th Gen Rams came out and had the e-Torque, I was all set to buy one until I decided to look under the hood and see this giant box in place of the alternator.
I asked WTF is that. Salesman came back and said that is the e-torque. And went on to vaguely explain what it did etc.
I asked how much it was to replace it. And now the guy goes well, its under warranty so. At this point I had owned my current Ram for 6 years and closing in on 100k. Keeping trucks is something I do.
Told him - price that part out for me. If it costs around 10% of an alternator, i'll sign on the dotted line.
Long pause.
He disappears
Im on my phone and chatting with the wife.
Comes back 20 minutes later saying that individual part is about $2200. We walked.
I get what they are trying to do. But I don't want it.
I also don't get how it can be an electric blower. That would require tapping a power source and an upgraded electrical system etc. For a car that has been on sale since 2009 and the Hellcats since 2014, that seems to be a lot of R&D money for 500 cars plus crate engines. I'm not buying it.
