Gotcha. I log every single pass but I'm very data driven. I can spend 30 seconds looking at my log when I get back to the pits and know exactly why something happened, or didn't happen, even down to prep being a variable. Seems daunting at first, but eventually it's like seeing the woman in the red dress when staring at the Matrix code :ROFLMAO:

I played with tire pressure on my ET Street Rs in Michigan. Instead of lowering, I raised them and the car picked up 3mph. I was shocked it was that much.

OK, on my fuel change out I can clearly see the car ET's better after the 5:58 run. And the et got a little better as the DA dropped. So right off the bat you could say the fuel was bad. But that would be an sssumption because the fuels were not the same. New was Methanol blend and original was Ethanol. So maybe the car liked the Methanol better. But, one of my biggest concerns was the MPH was all over the place. You can clearly see in the first 4 runs the MPH was defying logic. So I would say the fuel was in fact not good. After the change out the MPH was more realistic by far.

Now on your tire pressure did you do an actual test and verify, or are you assuming. So, 3 runs at 17 PSI and 3 runs at 22 PSI and then 3 more runs at 17 PSI? Or maybe from now on you have been running 22 PSI and your MPH is consistently 3 MPH faster?

I will say this again, me running 22 PSi does NOT make my car any faster if it does not hook. And does that 22 PSI actually help the ET? Because it could be OTHER things changing your indicated MPH on the time slip. Like the car now has more rake. The Demons are notorious for this. The MPH in the quarter mile will defy logic many times. I could do 9.58 at Houston and it might be 141 MPH or it might be 138 MPH or it might be 136 MPH. Some try to say it is the PCM regulating the power on the top end. I think it is something else.

I would say that at 22 PSI my ability to hook would be VERY unreliable. In fact I am not sure if I have EVER hooked at that pressure. Maybe it is my driving style or my pressure gauge.

Logic and common sense would tell me that running higher pressure will help the whole run be faster. The 60 because the tire wraps up less and the rest of the way because of rolling resistance. As long as the whole track is race prepped. Higher pressure could cause wheel spin on the gear shifts and even just driving down track.

I try to start the Car when I think the time before the burnout will be 2 to 4 minutes. But it is H E L L at Irwindale. They cannot keep the program running smooth. Also in the EX lane there are all the Idiots with really fast cars that don't know how to drive them and have a gang of Knuckleheads trying to line them up in the groove and help them stage the car etc..... Then they cannot hold their fluids and cannot get the car started take out all the cones and the list goes on. Lately the Lane minder has been injecting MOTORCYCLES into the EX cars run time out of the Blue. They are the BIGGEST time wasters. They are terrible. So I might be the next car to go and he points to 3 motorcycles sitting there to go in front of me. I might be on minute 5 by then and I am PISSED.

I will watch the
Clean up crew.
I try to gauge
When they are
Just about done.
So I can start the car
And let it run for a couple
Minutes before rolling back into the water.

I keep an eye on the IC temp
In the center cluster.
I log this number also.

When held up by officials
the power chiller
Will usually hold the IC number

I was held up by officials on both these
Runs during a test and tune day.
It was hot so I only made two passes
About three hours apart.
I just keep it running.

I stopped getting mad over things I can’t control when it relates back to trying to optimize chiller setup before a run. If I get lucky and hit the timing just right, great! If not, oh well, there’s too much luck involved unless you’re at a private rental with low car count. Plus, after I had to idle the car for 30+ minutes in a Tx2k finals race cause someone messed up and told me to start my car and move up, I stopped caring, my car only slowed down half a tenth or tenth from the heat soak and I still won that race.

Btw, having switched to an ice tank setup, I no longer have this conundrum to deal with when using a chiller. I wish I had switched sooner.

Combine it with a good weather station to go with your data logging.

Every big time bracket racer has this. Works really well once you load it up with data.

OK I went to Irwindale again Thursday night. The car was a lot more consistent with the better fuel in it. The DA was unusually bad. 2800 at 5 pm down to 1800 at 9pm (77 deg) for the last pass. The car hooked really well and all passes were from 1500 launch rpm give or take. ONE pass it spun a little and hopped on the 1-2 gear shift. This car hits second gear really hard. The track was prepped really really well. That too is unusual. Maybe they got a shipment of PJ1?

OK, So Irwindale was a blast this week. 1.5 hour delay when one guy oiled down the track 3 cars in front of me. I stood there the WHOLE time and watched them clean up. The fast cars run singles in the left. But the oil down was on the right. They rig sprayed the whole right and it looked amazing after the cleanup. I was planning on going in the right. Then the VERY NEXT CAR oiled down and crashed in the right lane. Everyone was freaked out because they thought the cleanup was insufficient and was the cause of the crash. I knew better. So, another 1+ hour delay. The motor got a really good cooldown. So it makes more power and the DA was heading D O W N. So they ran a bunch of slow shit just to prove the track out before they let the fast cars run. So we had to sit right by the water box while all these knuckleheads funneled around us and proceeded to jack the track surface up. So I DID take the right and the car did not make a good pass. All that waiting for nothing.......

But the DA went down to 100. Rare at Irwindale. So for my last pass I took the left. On this taller Hoosier and with fuel that could be a little better, the car busted out a 6.11 with a 1.33 sixty foot leaving at a conservative 1500 rpm. DANG, I will take that. Since it was so cold the car was wobbling on this pass and I am not 100% sure but I think it was running out of gas. Maybe sloshing fuel? The level was not THAT low. It was hard to tell, but I stayed in it because I KNEW the DA was killer. On better prep this car will be in the 6.0's when set on kill.

BTW, it will take a 6.06 to beat Nephtali's 9.504 in the Quarter Mile. I am coming for you......... In Huston I think I can do it.

BTW the MPH was almost 112 on that less than ideal pass before this. So this likely would have been 3 MPH higher or so.....

Sorry guys, I could not get it done. I was running Six Teens all night at 112. All runs were 112 and one pass was 6.206 with a big 1-2 hiccup. So, the track was not cooperating. Down track prep was not holding up. Probably because it had rained. They needed to rig spray the track again but it cost too much......The faster 2 of the 4 friends trailered their cars early. I kept at it, but never could take advantage of the good DA. With this car I do not get too excited if it hiccups. It's just track prep. I made 7 passes and it had a hiccup on 3 of them and on the last pass it ran 112.75 and it shifted from 1rst straight to 3rd gear. That hurts acceleration a bunch. Best pass was a 6.131 @ 112.41 WITH a sizable 2-3 hiccup.

There was a stranger prepping and starting the cars. He was doing some cool shit, but needed to dial in the down track prep. I hope I can get my Six Oh at Match Race Madness soon......

OK @Speedy! and others I have a question. The car does not seem to be able to 60 foot quite as good on this shorter tire 28.0 VS 29.5 and I am not sure why. I am using what I think is better fuel and the speeds are up accordingly etc. HERE is my theory. Is it sound? With the taller tire it gets to 60 feet before the 1-2 shift and the shorter tire does not? Is this logical or possible?

That's a good hypothesis. I know in my logs with the 2.62 gear and 305/45R17 tire I hit 42mph at the 1-2 shift. It's something I've looked at to get past the 60' before the first shift.

If you can have someone video your run and watch at the 60' cone maybe you can tell without a log.

Technically, yes. 28/10.5R17 VS 29.5/10.5R17. I think the 28 is actual 10.5 or 10.4 tread where as the 29.5 is underrated @ an actual 10.9 tread width. Yes both Hoosier DBR's.

Interesting note, on Thursday it was really cold and the 28" tall Hoosiers did not wobble once. The 29.5's do it at least once per track visit. The 28's have done it though. Just not this pair, yet. Hopefully in Houston they will not do it much if at all. Big Burnouts here we come!

What are the 60's you're averaging with the 28 vs 29.5?

Keep in mind it will vary with launch RPM. Most of these are at 1500 RPM. Which is not possible if the track prep is not real good.

I am going to try both sets of tires in Houston when in neg DA.

I stumbled on some info from the people at Mac Fab bead lock conversions.
They recommend double bead locks when using Hoosier radials. Why? It has a much lighter built carcass than
M/T's which can get by with singles.
My thoughts are if using the Hoosier, run the doubles or nothing at all. Running the singles will help stabilize only one
side of the tire. The other side is still free to wrap up or paddle.
These heavy cars are very hard on sidewalls.
Might be worth a call and talk to these people, they have a wealth of knowledge in the radial world.
