HR5 HELLRAISER WHEELS. COUNTRY OF MANUFACTURE ?

I just received my HR5's and was excited to open the boxes and see them. But when I saw the country of manufacture was very surprised and disappointed. They look fine, and received no damage in shipping (That I can see). I just had a bad experience with a set of Factory reproductions F77's where one was bent right out of the box, so I'm hoping all goes well with these. But am I missing something? Am I miss reading something? It does say "German spun forged construction" on website right? Do they make them in Taiwan and send them to Germany to be spun forged ??? . Also, I don't see a D.O.T. certification cast or stamped anywhere unless I'm missing it. Can anyone clarify if I'm wrong on all accounts here?

"German spun forged construction" doesn't mean the same as manufactured in Germany. It's just a technology. It would be way more expensive if made in Germany. Just my $.02.

It most likely is made in Taiwan and finished in Germany


A lot of the crank/rods/pistons etc are done this way. Made in China and finished in the USA. But the China crank is $850 vs $1800 for the Made in USA crank.
Tariffs have leveled some of the playing field but its still cheaper to build many things in China/Taiwan and bring them back here.

No different then a layman reading a legal document or legal contract...what you think you read...and what it really means...some times is misleading...

Well I called PK yesterday during lunch. I was told 'German spun forged' is a fancy way of saying rotary forged but that's a copyrighted term so they can't say that. Was also told they were NOT D.O.T. certified, but a lot of aftermarket wheels aren't. It would be to time consuming and expensive to get them D.O.T. certified. Was told they can't come into the U.S.A. unless they have D.O.T. or JAL? or VIA? certification (Not a 100% certain of the last two abbreviations. We were talking on phone and I didn't wright down), which these wheels have the last two. Was also told they have the Japanese certification which is to a higher standard than D.O.T.
Problem is the obvious. The factory simply doesn't make a wider rim (excluding wide body with the wrong offset for narrow body plus different styling). So to run wider tires you have to go aftermarket and trust? them. PK also stated they have sold trailer loads with no issues at all and wouldn't sell them if they didn't trust them. Those are the best answers I got.

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to clarify all that. I for one really appreciate it. I will say I have had these rims for awhile now and I could not be happier. My ride is 100% smooth as glass. Also Paul is a class act to work with. He went above and beyond working things out with me when I made my purchase.

I have a set and have been very happy. they have been on with 555R and 555G2's No issues Paul was good to work with

Used a set of these on the back of my cat, 20x11. Wanted factory look to match the front OEM wheels but be able to get some decent tire with on the back. Paul was really good to work with and answered all my questions in detail. Also purchased tires with them so when they showed up I could bolt on and go, no need to visit a tire shop. I think the goal of good value and decent quality was achieved. I wasn't up to dropping the cash for fancy multi piece super light wheels all the way around. I'm not really into the wheel bling bling thing. I didn't want to compromise on structural strength though, not worth it on a car this capable. I think these wheels fit the bill. Ride is smooth and traction is worlds better. The only thing I would have liked a bit better was if the Hellraiser's could accept factory lug nuts. I used black all keyed lugs on all the wheels but due to the lug nut bore size, the Hellraiser's require a different lug. So I have two different lug nut keys to keep track of. It looks good though.

I purchased these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N4VSVYG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Gorilla 96643BDX black factory style wheel locks. Had installed on all four factory wheels. When I installed the Hellraiser's, I ordered the black locking lugs from Paul with the wheels for the rear. Now I have the Gorilla's in front and the ones from Paul in the back.

FOLLOW UP ON THIS THREAD. Well I took the HR's and my Nitto NTO5's to get mounted and balanced this weekend. Good news, my guy said they are pin strait and did not take a lot to balance, even with the meaty 315's. So I'm happy with that. When I got home and mounted, they are close but no rubbing thus far. But more importantly, as others who have answered this thread have stated (thanks) they are smooth and tires bite real good. No long term rating, but as stated by PK these are quality rims even though they are not manufactured in Germany or D.O.T. cert.
P.S. My guy stated there are problems with most aftermarket rims a pretty good percentage of the time. He put a set on by a well known manufacturer and also had a bend problem out of box. Then stated he personally bought a set of high end $14000 dollar rims for a customer with a Ferrari and yep...one had the whoop, whoop, out of round right out of the box! So I am happy with what I got.

Here is what I did when I got some of the very first sets, because I wanted to know more about them.

I don't have the numbers available at the moment, but while they weren't as good as the O.E.s, they were generally within industry guidelines.
