Most of these places were built when the real estate values were very low.

Now a dragstrip isn't the highest, best use anymore. So values go up and the track is forced to sell.

Doesn’t mean there is any grandfather clause? Same reason E-Town closed up. The homes just get closer and closer and even though the homeowners know the track is there, they eventually don’t want it.

Palm Beach International was sold for warehouse distribution center. Railroad ran right next to it. Higher value use.

Atco Dragway was sold to a salvage auction company. Much quieter than a dragstrip.

Same thing with housing. Higher value. Taxes go through the roof

Of course complaining neighbors doesn't help.

Until drag racing can generate the kind of money it used to (40 or 50 years ago) it won't be able to compete with other land uses and track losses will have to continue.

As cities expand theybwill have to move further into the boonies (where they were to begin with)

When a new racing facility is built in the boonies, part of the deal needs to be to get the county to require that all property within X distance of said facility include a clause in their deeds in perpetuity that by buying said property, they forever lose their right to bitch about associated traffic and noise.

Been done for airports and airparks in Arizona. Stopped more than a few complainers in their tracks.
