2023 Durango SRT 392

Hi. First post here, but have been on the other Durango forum for years. Anyhow, I am in the process of buying my 3rd Durango SRT 392. Summer or winter, they always run between 201 and 206 degrees when fully warmed up, per the factory gauges. The first two (a 2019 and a 2023) would creep up to 215-220 while idling in the summer, but as soon as they would get a few RPMs on them they would cool back down. Same was true even when towing heavy loads. Not much info on the new one (a 2024), since I have only taken it on a test drive in cold weather.

It is the same 392 as the ‘19 and ‘23, same thermostat, why do you think something is different?.

I don't.

I was replying to the OP, seemingly asking about normal temps for the SRT392.

That’s normal. Nothing to worry about.

Sure you aren't looking at the oil temp?

If anything needs to be cooler that 392 does. The coolant does run that warm. When on the cruise like when I was regularly doing 80-90 out on the Denver expressway the oil had no problem with 220~230 on a warm day!! Ha, yesterday my intake air temp was 13. I was more concerned just how quick it could get to 107 mph.:p

As soon as I can I am going to have this thing tuned and get one of our famous 185-190 degree jewels in this thing Eric. Reminds me of the old 6.1L.

Yeah I hear you, but the fact that he says it goes down to 190 had me thinking it could be oil, since the coolant will never go below about 197 while driving with the stock 203 tstat in my experience - and that's on the freeway on a cold day.

I remember my 392 running higher oil temps than the redeye yes, but I think that's cause I drove it harder more frequently than the redeye because you just destroy tires and hit very illegal speeds so easily with this thing ;)

The Durango will respond to a tune and tstat well I bet - I would just be careful which one you buy. I don't trust them all anymore after blowing several of the Motorad/Jet models, I would only get a Mishimoto or Milodon - and they run slightly cooler, like right around 180 at speed(which is borderline too low IMO although oil temps are almost exactly the same as the stock tstat so kind of a moot concern and it does run around 200-206+ in town - and also they definitely do throw a code with the stock tune.
