How good is the Stock Transmission?

Am I good as long as I keep my RWHP below 1000 with the Stock 8 Speed auto in the SRT 392 Durango?

Just make sure it has a GOOD tune it it and it will hold that power no problem.

Tune is more important than power. There are some burning up transmissions at 800 hp. My personal car did a handful of 8 second passes and a lot of low 9s on the stock trans and on tear down it looked fine still. I have a lot of customers in the low to mid second range on a stock transmission.

Edit - just noticed you are a hp70 trans with that 392 durango. You will not get the power out of a hp70 as we are with the hp90. I really do not have a set power rating but a 1000 rwhp that stock trans will not live.

already having some issues with it when shifting manually, its slamming into gear under WOT occasionally, especially in Track Mode.
Also in Sport Mode in auto it lags during shifts at times during WOT, causing the Durango to "pause" in acceleration until it kicks in all the way.
Also at times it downshifts hard Shifts where it just throws itself into gear causing a lunge forward.

None of these things happen all the time, but together its becoming quite annoying.

Its supposed to get a ProCharger system and then Forged Pistons / Rods and maybe a more aggressive cam after that.
But with this tranny problem, it makes me not want to risk the warranty on those things right now.

You need to get the proper tune put in it and see how it works.

I had Jon tune mine. Completely changed the car.

Any mods or special tuning will affect your warranty. They can tell when they hook up to your car with their diagnostics

Sounds like you are worried about tuning the trans when you’re committed to modifying and tuning for a Procharger? You will want to get the factory shift points changed. Forget about your factory warranty.

I would just enjoy that 392 for what it is, I mean it is not slow by any stretch and fairly optimized without a lot of power left on the table. Should be reliable and just drive the hell out of it! If you have a problem you got that warranty. Hopefully they get this little issue resolved. These ZF 8-speeds are very good units overall.

Your right in that it is not slow by any stretch....BUT. As my wife says, this is my mid life (well LATER mid life anyways) crisis. So I need more HP and more Seat Pinning Torque. Now that I have a taste of how fast this thing is, I want more....I know, pathetic that someone my age and being disabled and all..

No I want to be part of my local muscle car / Mopar community and go to car shows / events with it.
I drive my SRT hard and burn alot of gas.

ProCharger is.

At least thats the plan, right now I am dealing with transmission issues. The Dealer has already replaced the Valve Body and now it sounds like they are putting in a new transmission.
