I ran one of those thin mesh pre-filters on Go Man Go and wanna get one for the 170. Anyone know what size etc? BWoody has a Redeye one for a whopping $70!! but I figure I can get one from somewhere like Outers for half that. I just need the size or P/N.

Bugs are really collecting in the pleats and with the large hood scoop water can saturate the filter if I ever get caught in the rain so I figure the pre-filter is a good idea. The one on the old car kept the filter much cleaner.

JLT has one not sure the price. I bought a new opened legmaker and it was missing or I would give it to you so they have one also

I drive my car in plenty of rain and never been an issue. My 13 mustang filter also saw rain through the vents in the hood

I absolutely run a pre-filter, mostly for the bugs, maybe some for water? I got mine when I bought my Legmaker, so I unfortunately don't have a separate source for you. They are easy to take off when you want that extra little bit of performance at the track.

My guess on pre-filters they are worth 0 hp loss based on CAI testing. So if you have one then run it if you want, I have never had one

Ah, JLT is what I ran on Go Man Go. I'll check with them and Outerwears tomorrow. My filter creases are already covered in crap. I'd rather have it than not.

I believe JLT is now S&B? You have to know what specific size your filter is @Speedy to see if they have something compatible. For example, this is a 5x7 pre-filter for my 5.7 Hemi. They may not have one for your filter if it’s not an S&B filter. Check on Sbfilters.com image.jpg

The JLT pre-filter is/was made by Outerwears on the three kits I have - P/N is 20-3103-01/JLT for black (paid ~$35 on most recent purchase). Not sure if this fits the Demon filter.

I run a prefilter on my Legmaker for the reasons mentioned.
Just some info for everyone…they claim tge prefilter doesn’t affect air flow. This is BS. I was experimenting with these 20 yrs ago. I had a AC 650 4x4 quad that had the Kawi v twin. I mud raced it so it got a 760 big bore. In order to make it breath, I ran 4 snorkels in the airbox. This was a carbureted deal, so we kept added holes and jetting up making more HP on the dyno. Then we put Frogskin prefilters over the 4 snorks to keep the muck and water out of the airbox….was worth going down 14 jet sizes to get it running nice again….with the expected drop in HP. Bottom line: on you EFI vehicles, lose the prefilter at the track.

Talk about an over engineered on this air filter connection! Some kinda rubber mount at the front that slips in to a tab, 3 phillips screws, bolts for the filter surround, and a band clamp. Good grief.

How does the pre-filter fit around this rubber deal at the front?

On Go Man Go I used to pull the pre-filter off the JLT at the track and one day ran a test. The car ran the exact same times with and without surprisingly.

I would guess it’s because the air filter size is over-sized to the required flow. On my quad deal, we added airflow until the jetting was the same as without the lid on the airbox, but the prefilters cover just the ends over the snorkels. Maybe if we upsized it wouldn’t have been a big deal?

I'll run a test on the 170 too just to confirm. On Go Man Go with the JLT pre-filter off/on was no biggie and took like a minute. I'm not sure how it goes on and off with the way this 170 is setup. May be a headache.
