Got to do a driving experience thing yesterday at the local speedway infield road course. I think it's normally something like $400 for 3 laps which sounds "fun" until you realize it's over in about 5 minutes and by the time you figure out the track it's time to pull back in to the pits. They try to upsell you on 3 laps riding shotgun with an instructor, upsell you to buy pictures they take of you in the car, merch, etc. All in all it sorta felt like one of those rides at Disney and they shuffled us around in a rush like that kid in Christmas Story trying to see Santa. Had I paid for this I'd not have been impressed. They also scare you to death telling you about all the fines and insurance deductibles you'll pay if you make a mistake. Hit a cone, that's $500 by the way. Tires go off the track, that's $300 for "cleaning fee".
That's the bad. The good is that I actually got to drive two cars and I chose the Lamborghini Huracan since I've always wanted to drive a Lambo. It was a pretty sweet car and the interior was impeccable. I liked how they carried design elements from the exterior to the interior in terms of shapes and colors and the dash felt like I was in a fighter jet. It was AWD and quick, but the throttle was SUPER sensitive and when you laid in to it the extremely abrupt down shift really distracted from an otherwise fun drive.
Next up was the Porche Cayman GT4 RS. It was MUCH smoother to drive and made glorious sounds from the exhaust. By now I had figured out the track and my recent Radford Racing School training came in handy. After the first lap the instructor in the passenger seat just kinda got quiet and mostly just let me drive. The interior in the Porche wasn't near as nice as the Lambo, and the door "handle" to exit the car was actually a nylon strap LOL, but I guess they consider it more race than road car afterall.
Cars get a 8/10. Xtreme Xperience a 3/10.
