Going to a air shifter to hit those shifts right where they need to be. Being able to push the shift rpm up to the edge of the danger zone has its benefits. Missing it by a little when doing that could lead to bad stuff. For that reason... I’m not going to be pulling the lever anymore. The CO2 bottle is mounted with some beautiful billet brackets I found to one of the bars in the floor that is a part of the cage. These cars are a handful . Everything helps to get them down the track .

Yeah it’s getting to be. The deciding factor for me is having it shift exactly when it needs to. The way my torque converter works.... it needs to be at rpm that is seriously close to max. I’ve hit the limiter a couple times and that is scary not good at this power level. The gearing I had previously in the 400 was too low for this power. I was having to hit second at the 60’ and that has been 1.2x seconds. Not a lot of leeway with that. The gearing has been changed with the trans rebuild and it will be better now. It will be faster and safer if the shifts happen reliably without me making a mistake that takes my motor out.

How does an air shifter work exactly? I get that it's an air charge that moves the shifter, but how does it know when?
The air line from the bottle/regulator runs thru a electric solenoid that gets a signal to release a air charge to the shifter from either a RPM switch or in this case the Holley Dominator EFI. The switch is adjustable so you can set the RPM you want it to shift at.
