In the past, the donut was the affordable choice in neck protection. The SFI versions offer fire protection for your neck and up into your helmet. Along comes the expensive Hans and now other designs in helmet restraints that don’t provide the fire side of the equation. So you have to have a SFI hood or donut in addition to the tethered restraint. I use the same Simpson as pictured and tech always checks that I have a hood every time. I believe in safety so I use this stuff. But…. These manufacturers support the NHRA so they support them back by making you buy their stuff. Not only that but the SFI certs are time dated and you have to pay to recert or throw away perfectly good stuff and replace it every few years. Money making racket.
Just like the 18 demons most won't match the numbers. Most 18s i have seen were 1/2 second off the number. I think 9.3-9.5 will be where most are with the 170. I do see someone going 8s and hitting dodges numbers faster then what it took for the 18 though

I guarantee you will hit 150 way before 7’s. Even running 1.2 sixty’s I was over 150 to run 9.0. My first 8.9 was at 155mph. Hell, a 7.49 like stated is going 150 at the 1/8 mile.

I am a huge believer in safety and always did more than the bare minimum, but also common sense. This is precisely why I and I am certain many others reach their limit with the nonsense SFI BS, and pull the plug. I got tired of my stuff burning money for no good reason just sitting there. I didn't get out too often, and always was sweating and perturbed when the dates on my perfectly good Meziere billet flexplate, aftermarket trans. case & bell, etc. dates would come up. Sometimes I rolled the dice tech wouldn't look, other times I wasted precious time and money tearing out my perfectly good and basically fresh new driveline stuff just to pay for new stickers. Couldn't deal with it anymore.
no, but i check the DC catalog fairly often including today, and don't see anything that jumped out. Heck, they haven't even created a 2023 catalog yet
