I think @cole3986 's comment is material. When I got in to these cars back in 2008/2009 it was mainly a blue collar buyer, down to earth people on a budget. They (we) modified the cars as we had money to do so and had a good time doing it and built a pretty tight knit community. It's why I started ChallengerFest. A bunch of us on a forum just like this one decided to get together and it was awesome.

When the Hellcats came out and were the bad boys on the block they brought in a different demographic of owner. People with money who have to be the first and or have the "baddest" came in from Vipers, Corvettes, GT500s, and some BMW. These people typically know very little about the cars and how they work, but can tell everyone "I have the baddest". Kinda spoiled the community if I'm honest. I started seeing it at ChallengerFest. We had a pro photographer that would show up to take people's pics for free on the track and give them the images FREE. Some A-Hole went over and told him he didn't "have permission" to photograph him or his car. From then on we had to add language in the rules that participation meant your picture might be taken. Unbelievable and just one example of the BS that started.

Now here we are with the Demon 170 and it's a freaking mess. You can see it on the FB group where a guy posts a picture of his garage and his 170 with 12 other cars in the shot and asks what kind of fuel he should put in the car hoping people pat him on the back for having a garage full of cars. Pathetic really. Or the guy that posts a pic with his 170 and says he bought a 2nd one since he was tired of waiting on the first he ordered. Real goof balls if you ask me.
I have had people ask me if they could take pics of my car. Really that is a thing. I have never asked anyone and thought it was weird:LOL:

When I bought my 2009 R/T I purchased it with the intent to make it a GT500 killer. That's exactly what I did :)
Same. Bought the cheaper model to make it faster then the top

I have had people ask me if they could take pics of my car. Really that is a thing. I have never asked anyone and thought it was weird:LOL:
We've had kids videoing us while driving down the road many times. It's inevitable.

If a kid comes over interested in mine I let them get in and start it up. I wanna leave that lasting impression on the next generation and maybe we'll still have some hot rods around.

As a collector nice car to have but you can easily build a hellcat to do what a 170 will for a fraction of the cost
Isn't this true for ANY car, though? Same could be said back in 1970 for a 426 Hemi Cuda. Today a swapped out 383 cuda with a built-up crate Hemi is nowhere near as desirable as a matching numbers unmodified (and yes slower) 70 Hemi Cuda.

Who cares other than a select few though?

If I'm relying on the desirability of a car I buy 20 years from now I'll feel I've messed up somewhere in life.

I find it funny all the OG's that popped up for sale that had under 200 miles because the next greatest thing that wasn't suppose to happen, happened!

I find it funny ppl INSTA-sold them. OG looks, sits, and rides very differently than the D170. Perfect siblings!

Right. But many (perhaps not you) imply that it's "dumb" to buy an expensive D170 since you can go faster for cheaper. Sure but that's not why many ppl bought the D170. Yes, some are treating it like an investment, but others WANT to keep it stock and race it as is. To repeat Dodge's record of fastest OEM drag car ever made. Modding a car like that does not make sense if all you want to do is go fast. So you have two very different groups of buyers involved.

Well it's their car...their money...but buying a car..never driving it..then selling it six years later...tells me one thing...they aint car guys...

I'm gonna keep mine stock..didn't buy it to race it...gonna drive it..have fun with it..(maybe even get in trouble with it)...it's not gonna matter to me if it runs 8.90...or 9.90....not concerned with one less second of fun...stop light to stop lights are gonna be a blast....and like my other Cats..they aint never gonna be for sale...;););)

It don t need the 500 miles to crack open the power
I feel that 500 miles hurt the 2018 in some ways as far as hitting the track

Back in 71...when I bought my first Demon..within 2 wks. I was tearin it apart..intake..headers..carb..etc,...(drove my father crazy)...one kid in the neighborhood bought a "71" 340 duster..brand new..copper color with white 340 stripes down the side..buckets consul floor shifter...gorgeous car...drove it like my grandfather..left it bone stock..we thought he was a geek:geek:..he never married..was an only child..his parents died and left him the house..I heard he still had the car...I stopped there over the summer..we didn't recognize each other @ first..(haven't seen each other since 1974)..THE CAR IS IN HIS GARAGE...mint condition..56,000 miles...bone stock..very minor checkering of the paint on drivers door...underneath and under the hood..like still in the wrapper...he wont sell it...he even leaves oiled shop rags over the chrome tip exhausts...he wont even let me bring a few guys over to see it...I offered him 45.000 for the car...no sale...he has no kids..no siblings..nothin...he went from geek to hero in my book...can only wonder what happens to the car when he's gone...
