OR, just greedy! How I pay off my Super Stock in two years and I want to build our last forever home in the next couple years (already bought land, septic, well, put up a storage garage, etc...)
I've been known to work on a Sunday or two..and we're in our forever home...and my wife will NOT let me put up another building...

I'm not really sure what that number is....Two things I DO know...it's only worth something when you spend it...and it's only important when you don't have any...(or enough)

Well there's also two kinds of net worth

Assets vs cash, I've got the 7 figures in assets, but nowhere near that in cash, and the assets is ONLY because of the crazy equity in the house, cars and 401k, all of which is very "fluffy"...

Agreed. After the election my investments went up “very nicely”, so I had to celebrate and add another Hellcat to the family 😎.

And of course do my part in supporting the Oil workers as well by burning ALL the gas 😇

Nothing wrong with profit taking....after all it's only a balance sheet till you take it...;)

As will my son...I constantly tell him ...when I die he's gonna cry twice...once when he reads the will...and the second when he has to come up here and sell all the stuff I've been collecting for over 40 yrs....;);)

My father died penniless, except for the very valuable stamp collection he had, I got nothing from it, because of my sister, and because nobody had enough knowledge OR TIME to deal with it.

He even told me while he was still alive to not let her get her hands on it because he KNEW she would ruin it one way or another.

(Her homelessness did exactly that)

My point to you is don't put that burden on the family IF you want them to have the value. If you want them to have the literal possessions then fine, do as you see fit, in my dad's case, he kept that collection because he specifically wanted to pass on the value.

Me and my sister haven't spoken since he died because she dishonored him despite knowing otherwise.

Or, how to destroy $100k between family infighting...

The REAL cold shower as it relates to assets..is in the event of a divorce...(especially in NYS)...I have friends in their 40's/50's...that have been forced to move back in with their parents...and liquidate just about everything they worked for...my wife has tolerated me for 50yrs....another fatal bullet of life I've dodged ;)

All my relatives including parents and in laws have s as ll died with no assets! Only my MIL and my mom (not dead yet) even had the forethought to pre pay their funeral expenses! Dad left me and my brother to pay for his funeral. Only things he had of any value was a Harley ultra classic with 183,000 miles on it and the family 72 Chevy Malibu convertible hat mom bought in 1973 and dad got in the divorce.
That’s why my plan is to take it all with me or leave it to the wife! If she goes first I’m dying broke!!

That is truly sad... and is played out all too often among siblings when the parents die....my father passed away just over ten years ago...and had a very substantial net worth...none of us really knew the extent of his holdings...(even though I worked with him every day for 40 years)...I was a soldier and was on a need to know basis...I never asked...I have 3 sisters..all professional very successful and driven women...none of us have to work...but we all still do...my father's will was very explicit..and as executor I followed his wishes to the letter...sometimes my sisters go @ each other like cats and dogs...and as the only male sibling I have to be the mediator...fortunately it's never about money..ever...always petty bullshit that festers....our mother is still alive (96 and in good health)....I love all my sisters to death...I just hope when my mother passes they will continue to coexist and glad the disagreements are NEVER about money
