I just received my Redeye and there are at least a half a dozen paint runs on the underside of the hood primarily on the edges. Just curious if other owners have noticed the same issue. My 15 Challenger Hellcat did not have this problem and was the exact same color (White).

I have had paint issues with my front bumper and my hood. Paints drips on the bumper and poor quality satin black hood with swirls and lots of imperfections. My 2016 paint was way better. The paint was better before they updated the paint line at the Brampton plant.

I was just surprised at the amount of runs/drips on the edges of the hood. All of them are still soft and I have no doubt over time will flake or fall off leaving primer or bare steel exposed. The whole reason I decided to go with white was due to the poor paint quality and white is by far the most forgiving. Can't imagine what other owners are doing with black and high metallic cars because they must be littered with flaws. I am afraid to look at the bottom of the doors because I am sure they are just as bad if not worse...

On my '19 Octane Red 1320, I have come across one fisheye, one "lump" (can't tell whether it's a blister or paint covering a foreign object) and a couple of foreign objects trapped beneath the clear.

My biggest concern is along the body edges, primarily below the rockers but also the fender edges; the paint is lumpy, as if either the metal underneath wasn't smoothed, or that's where excess paint was allowed to dry.

I've cataloged the locations to submit to the dealer when I go in for my first oil change, and have also specified the locations in the Quality Survey I participated in.

Good to know the crappy paint on my car is normal...I wonder when these cars go through quality control just how big of a paint run it takes before it fails. It appears to me it would take a dead animal under the paint to reach a rejection...

I gotta say, the paint on my pitch black challenger is flawless and I've been over it many times. I feel lucky.

I got lucky with the Cat as the paint only has a few very tiny issues that I've just left alone.

My Vice White Durango is another story. There were paint runs & drips along both rear door edges and there is a very light blue, almond shaped discoloration on the RR Q panel that seems to be under the clear.
The dealer I bought it from has an excellent body shop & the manager swore he could fix the worst of the runs/drips and make it perfect (without repainting the doors). They did do an excellent job & you cannot tell it was ever touched. There was no way to fix the blue thing without sanding/repainting, so I decided to just live with it.

I'd have the dealer look at it & if you trust their body shop (or the shop they intend to use) get it done under warranty. Other option is to just go to a high quality shop & pay, sucks to be sure, but otherwise it will nag you & if you wait till it chips off it will be a much larger issue to deal with (read: repaint).

Always capture these issues with your dealer and have it documented in case a problem develops down the line. My wife's 2015 Colorado had numerous paint issues in the jambs etc. But, overall the Cyber Grey Metallic (pearlescent finish) is nice even after 74,000 miles. Keep in mind that it is a mass produced vehicle made on the same production line as regular vehicles - it is going to have flaws. The advantage we have is we paid a premium for the vehicle and that demands a higher degree of satisfaction.

And, yes I got white because it is the easiest to match/repair.

Seeing all these paint flaw posts on the old site and this site really make me nervous....guess once I finally order and my car comes in I am going to have to scrutinize it heavily before accepting it.....what happens if the car has huge flaws and they don't want to allow me to refuse delivery?

Legally, they own the car up until the moment you sign for it; they can't "make you" accept it. All you stand to lose would be any deposit you put down (which is why I keep mine to a minimum until I accept delivery).

If the car has defects on arrival though I would assume most would make it right....but legally in that circumstance can they even keep the deposit? I mean I bet you'd have to fight for it though...

Hey it’s a D O D G E it’s hit and miss. Both of my previous Hellcats had minor imperfections in the paint. And now my Redeye has some minor flaws but nothing radical. The doors and hood and trunk line up well though and no rattles so I’m good.

I haven’t had any paint or fitment issues on my 2016 HC, 2017 HC or 2018 Demon. I have owned quite a few jeeps also and never had any problems with the paint. I guess I’m in the minority

I have some bubbling in the clear coat on the inside of my wheel lips on my Redeye. 1 is worse than others, and they did that after I owned it for a couple months (wasn't like that when I bought it, that I noticed anyway). I talked to my dealership and they noted it. I'm not going to touch it for now, because of where it is. However, if it gets worse I'll get it fixed. My 15' cat had the same problem, unfortunately my Redeye is a bit worse. I'm not going to mess with it though, unless it gets worse. I've had cars repainted because of factory flaws. What a pain, trying to have a body shop try to match a factory color. It's the only thing on my Redeye I was disappointed with. As much as I love my dodges, they weren't know for great paint jobs. So if your paint is flawless you are very lucky! I'm just happy mine is out of viewing site, unless you stick you head in the wheel well you can't see it. I haven't had a single person but me notice it.

Fitment is much better on my Redeye vs my Hellcat though.

One good thing about having someone else detail your car is you don't have to realize how poor the paint is on new vehicles these days.
And having the dealerships body shop "fix it' is a crap shoot also.

As the fixed operations director of a CDJR dealership in Bowling Green KY as well as a Mopar enthusiast. I would be happy to take care of any defects in the factory paint under warranty and guaranty perfection to any fellow enthusiasts in the area. I would be honored to see to it!

I wish the local dealership was as enthusiastic as you are!

Wow. Sorry to hear that. Glad I don’t have a “Normal” paint job on my 17 HC Gomango. Very pleased with the paint quality I have. Please don't except bad paint as NORMAL. I just ordered a 19 Challenger HC RE WB and believe me at $93,000 I will not be excepting anything less then exceptional paint.

Thanks for the reply, but if you are expecting exceptional paint from one of these cars you are going to be disappointed. That is why I went with a white car because exceptional paint quality and FCA do not belong in the same sentence. Very much a shame since they have been building basically the same car for almost 12 years.
