A couple of years ago, there was this kid from Vermont that had "bought one on his own" at 16years old... I'm not sure what happened to him, or it...

Whether or not he was really 16, or really bought it on his own was suspect... He didn't post for too long...
His pants caught on fire

56....

Bought a 2013 6.4 chrysler 300 srt8 new, had it 3 years, traded it on a new ram 2500 with 6.7 Cummins.

Had the ram 5 years, didn't use it as much as I thought I would.

Did a straight swap with the ram for 2018 trackhawk with 23000km on it.

12 months factory warranty left , purchased 3 years extended wattanty.

The eagle eyed will notice the steering wheel is on the rhs.

Damn these things are expensive here in Australia. Around 150k aud new.

Just drove 600km home in eco mode.
Evic shows average of 12.5l/100km or 18.8mpg.

Running on 98 octane pump fuel, equivalent to your 93 I think.

I love this thing already....

I've been faster in my HC than in the 53...

;)
Fundamental limitation of retreating blade stall.

Wait, really, we're talking about two different things...

The original top speed of the 53 was 185knots, but due to airframe hours, it was derated to 120??? (I forget, and part of the reason is that it was often ignored, or "pushed". Excuses made for "Military need" or "transitional" flight realms.)

So our "typical" realm was 140ish knots, roughly 160mph

So my topspeed of 180ish in the HC wins...

Back to general helicopter topspeed, depending on rotor disc diameter, forward airspeed, etc, blade stall for a variety of reasons limits forward airspeed of the aircraft.

What is the fastest speed a Helicopter can go? Where is its limitation? (Airwolf excluded 😅🤣😅🤣😂).

Believe Eurocopter X3 can go 260+ knots, but has secondary engines to achieve that.

Determined by retreating blade stall in a conventional single disc rotor system. The longer the blade is, the broader the lift region, up to a given foward airspeed. The problem becomes when that forward airspeed reachs a point where the airflow over the retreating blade is negating any lift from that blade. When that blade loses lift, it then goes into a stall much like a regular airplane wing. When that blade stalls, the helo will start to roll in the direction of the stall, and if not corrected will result in a catastrophic loss of lift for the aircraft as the helo bypasses the point where the roll can be arrested.

There are usually warnings from the aircraft before you reach that point. You will get a vibration in the cyclic stick, you will hear some blade noise that is different than the normal noise. You will have to input more roll correction as you start to enter retreating blade stall.

You want to lower the collective and take some of the load off the rotor system to counteract, and reduce airspeed.

Yeah....but see...the great thing about helos is that you aren't that high off the ground.....so you don't have to endure the fall from 30k+ ft screaming all the way when something goes wrong......in a helo....it'll be a short ride.....
Troop yer talkin to a guy that gets a nose bleed from a ten ft ladder

Yes.....

Rotor tip speed needs to be kept below supersonic, which is controlled by max rotor rpm for the given length and tip design. The new 53's have a swept tip, just like the 60's have.

Max forward a/s is limited by retreating blade stall.

However, in a multi-disc counter rotating rotorhead (ie: Kamov, or the mighty Sikorsky ABC) you always have an advancing blade, so retreating blade stall is eliminated. Then power and airframe design become the limiting factors.
Exactly, though I would not say the counter rotating systems eliminate the retreating blade stall, they compensate for it with the other rotor. That stall profile on those blades in retreat continues to exist and adversely effects max air speed. Of course you can use increased angle of attack on the retreating blade to try and compensate too but eventually the system reaches a maximum angle of attack.

LOL how the hell did we get off on this. Talk about thread high jacking.

I prefer screaming from 30,000 feet myself.
