Is this something we should worry about?

Saw this video...skip ahead to about 9 min for the part that concerns us. He can't get head gaskets from Dodge. Could he have just called Summit and ordered some aftermarket ones?

Damn strait it’s something to worry about !

I hope there is a mad scramble for aftermarket suppliers to build OEM quality parts and they make reasonable money, that would certainly make auto manufacturers sit up and pay attention. I have to wonder was this planned because they wanted to force electric on us. Hope Tim has enough clout to reach across the isle from Ram set things right.

Yes, a valid concern for sure. There is, and has been, something sinister (IMO) going on with Chrysler and parts for sure, not sure if the same at GM and Ford.

It's why I was stock piling parts from my Hellcat. Electronics will be the first to be hard to find I'm guessing like PCMs, Uconnect modules, etc.

I wish the stuff I had fit the 170 I'd have kept them as spares.

I think the reasons are financial in nature. Stellantis is in worse shape than we know and paying parts suppliers is probably low on the list.

They aren’t making new parts, they’re clearing the shelves. They’re also going to start selling “rebuilt” and “lightly used” parts

I'd try to have spare Uconnect, PCM, throttle body, supercharger, bcm, security gateway, and any sensors you can easily find. Maybe injectors too. Think about stuff you likely couldn't get from the local parts store.

Having said that, I will say my 23 year old 4Runner wasn't too bad to get parts for when I started restoring it a couple years ago. A few things were discontinued like interior panels and stuff like that which was a surprise. Body clips, bolts, hoses, etc were all available and reasonably priced.

There may be a slump in availability while parts are unavailable from the dealer but the aftermarket hasn't picked up on them yet. I thought there was some regulation that required a manufacturer to have parts available for a certain amount of time, but I'm sure Stellangtis will try to weasel any way they can to cut a corner.

Hundred years ago.... My father had a body shop, I grew up sanding, grinding, slopping Bondo, eventually actually doing small paint jobs when I was 14.

My father always said, "Car mfr's are required by law to provide replacement parts for 10 years".

Yeah, he also had a story about an inventor that sold Henry Ford a formula for a "pill" that you drop into a gas tank full of water and it turned into gasoline equivalent fuel. I had to tell him the bad news after I enrolled in Engineering school...

There’s still zero aftermarket for regular parts, which is a problem

The 2015s are 10 years old. Dealers are only legally required to carry parts for (I forget the exact time) something like 15 years after the model year? Thats a big problem.

So what about seals, bearings, head gaskets? Can we buy aftermarket? I don’t plan on modifying my car, but if it gernaded for whatever reason, I would consider an overbuilt rebuild if parts are available. If no parts are available, this almost makes me think about ditching the car while it’s still good.

Even though the Hellcat in the video is a 2016 model, Hellcat engines are still being sold in new vehicles! (Durango SRT Hellcat)

So what gives in not being able to get parts for it????

Mopar is basically out of business. Cannot even score a new set of Mopar Performance Springs. They even discontinued something easy. Had to reach out to a fellow road racing guru who works at a very large dealer himself for confirmation of this stupid discovery. Nope nada, nothing available. Had to buy a reputable aftermarket set for my upgrade/replacement springs for the Redeye this coming season. Got his recommendation and went with it. Delivered with a smile in days from Summit Racing (Eibach).

Hopefully the aftermarket steps up. They made a lot of these things and they will continue to be sought out by enthusiasts. Agree the computers are going to be a potential problem.
