I was maybe 10y old, 1967 I think, 10 of the GB Packers came to CT and played a charity basketball game against, I can’t remember, either a local HS or college team. I met 8 of them and got their autographs on the program (which I haven’t seen since 1974). I specifically remember Jerry Cramer, Forrest Gregg, Doug Hart, and the unmistakable and unforgettable crazy man Ray Nitschke. They did not make much $ in those days, SB1 didn’t even sell out. I was much too young and stupid to know what was in front of me.
Back in "67" before the merger...Jack Kemp was the quarterback for The AFL Buffalo Bills...he signed a contract for 25,000.00,,,which was thought to be HUGE...a couple years later Broadway Joe Namath signed with the Jets for 400,000.00....but I believe the first million dollar contract.went to Green Bay Packers half back #44 Donnie Anderson....and we haven't looked back

If you’re old like me and was into hi-fi/stereo, you might know who Henry Kloss was. He was one of the founders of Acoustic Research, the K in KLH, started Advent, made the audio cassette a high fidelity source by combining it with Dolby noise reduction, the first home projection TV (the Advent Video Beam), started Cambridge Soundworks, etc. Anyway, after I asked a question on a product registration card, he called me. We talked for about 20 minutes. Brilliant guy.

Way back in 1975, I met an interesting guy named Jimmy Hoffa. He asked if we could play hide and go seek. I told him to hide good and to stay there until I find him. Well, it seems I never did find the guy. I hope he knows its ok to stop hiding now all these years later.....

Henry Winkler (the Fonz). I was on a river rafting trip on the Kern River in California. That river can be extreme when the snow melt is at its peak and it was going. Him and his son were in the other of the two rafts in the party. His son was about 10 or so and he got launched and was in the water by himself. He went by our boat and I grabbed him as he went by and pulled him in. After we pulled in to a cove to rest, Henry came over to retrieve the kid and said thanks. We sat together for a while and he asked me what I did for a living. I told him I was a Firefighter. He got all serious and wanted to know if he could ask me a question about that. Of coarse I said sure. He said.. you know I have this friend Ron Howard that made this movie Backdraft and everybody says it’s really realistic. Tell me the truth… is it? I just laughed and told him… no. Not even close.

Beyond their regular play, I heard was the winning players of SB1 got $10k or $20k, and the losers got half that.

AFL was a black sheep, if I remember correctly, Lombardi's SB1 pre-game speech went something like this:

Everyone knows you will win. What you guys are here to do today is to show everyone what a joke the AFL is.

And not you can't even use the term "Super Bowl" unless you pay royalties! That's why it's called "Game Day"!
