Ronnie Sox was known as Mr. 4speed. I read he got out of racing when manuals could no longer keep up with the autos. Not sure if that part is true.

I remember the old times when Pro stock cars could barely break the 10's in the 1/4 mile. Now Hellcats with air conditioning and comfort can achieve these numbers

When you stepped on the throttle with mechanical linkage and that huge 4 barrel carburetor opened up those secondaries, oh what a glorious sound and a big kick of power.

Or at the Englishtown track, now gone, and Big Daddy Don Garlits did that wheelie and back flip, in 1986, racing Darryl Gywnn! I was there.

We didn't realize they were the best of times.

Speaking of Don Garlits, my buddies dad raced with him in the day. a life of speed

Best affordable small block at that time. You could get parts and work on them. 283’s and 327’s had been around for years and were a better choice for hot rodding than a 289 Ford. Nobody was building those. You didn’t really see the rabid factory loyalty smack talk like now because there was no internet with keyboard racers. 😂
