What are you guys with busted up backs using to get your wheels on and off your car?

I use a simple breaker bar, but a large screwdriver would also work to get the wheel studs to line up with the holes in the wheel. It's fairly easy to both rotate the tire a bit and lift it to the correct height that way. Of course, I also only lift the car until the tires clears the floor by about 3/4".

Now, does anyone have a good idea about how to lift heavy tires and wheels up on and off of the tire machine?
I put the car on the lift up to about 3ft..put the tire on a hydraulic scissors cart...roll it right on..easy as pie..

Easy for you to say. I don't have a lift that'll accommodate 40' trailers or 16,000-lb. vehicles.Or even a hydraulic lift cart.

And if I did, I wouldn't want those tires and wheel assemblies to potentially fall down from three feet.

I've done giant heavy wheel military vehicle tires with two long, very long pry bars or pipes but that was way back when and it was never easy. Now these small car tires are a challenge for me with my health, back and all that. Last time I rolled the tire up on a 2x4 and adjusted the jack until it was manageable. Still not easy.

THAT is a good point. I got the new extended set this summer and I move them on their wheels for sure. Then I carefully move them the wall and lift it about one inch to be hung on their hangers for storage. Good form, using my legs like a dead lift or squat developed from 50 years of weightlifting is the only way that will happen. When the old guy can’t do that, hoping that will be a while because a lot of fun stuff will be over.

We will get the wood supports painted up soon, sorry.:giggle:

How do you get the wheels/tires up on that tire rack? THAT's my issue. Lifting 60-70lbs over my head is getting harder and harder these days.
Good question and here is the easy, cool and cheap (damn not anymore) way to make it happen. I do not think I paid more than a couple hundred if that, about seven years ago. Wow looked and the kit is $650 now. But this is what I use. Worth 1000 words. Garage Gator lift.

That's what I was thinking, there are several 110V electric winches pretty inexpensive on Amazon.

You might be surprised what you can do from a seated position. Anything going on a Hellcat is lighter than the 24s on my truck and I get those up no problem.

Another thing you could do, which is a little more risky
1. Jack up the car enough to get the wheels off.
2. Lower it a little so that you can roll the other wheel up to the lugs and lean them against the lugs, where 1 or 2 are protruding through.
3. Jack up the car a little and it’ll lift the wheel up enough to just push it on the rest of the way.

Ah, then you know how much fun 14,00R20s on beadlock wheels can be.

I laugh at the little stuff, like Challengers wheels, but unfortunately my back and knees don't join me in that laughter.

Long story short, my mom thought it would be funny to name him Jack’s son (Toepfer). I’m a Jr… so he is my father’s son.
He went by JT until he started working with me and became a “professional”.

If you're a Widebody or similar, I think the Daytona tire jacks aren't wide enough for the tires. I went with the GoJaks. A little more expensive but I bit the bullet a few years ago. I don't use them to lift the tires onto the car, but I do use them to move the car in the garage sometimes or to get the car a little higher so I can get a good jack under the car.

@TrackDay I haven’t used the jack to swap tires yet, which is the purpose I bought it for, but I was able to get it under my rear wheel and lift the car, so I’m confident this will work. I’ve got Nitto 315 20’s on the car now, so it’s wide but doable. Next will be my 305/17 MT’s. I will report back.

You just gave me the motivation to get off my a$$ and make things easier for myself. I have a brand new $50 Harbor Freight winch sitting on the shelf for 10 years. lol Need to mount it and hook up a battery and tender!!
