4.5L Whipple 'Murder Cat'

Update: Ordered the wrong stuff last week from Whipple. I simply don't understand why things are going so poorly.
Original email for work requested 9/4/2020 that was never replied to:
Here are things noticed installed wrong so far:

1. -Wrong vacuum fitting - needs whipple specialty 8AN o-ring to 15.82mm quick connect.(Photo attached)
2. -Missing the correct Whipple vacuum hoses/QD fittings.
3. -Evap hose setup is a bit odd
4. -Fuel line routing is odd- 3 points of contact. Covered with DEI 3000 Fire wrap for safety in the meantime. - Would like to retain the wrap when adjusted. Needs heat shrink on the ends for clean install.

Tune/Drivability issues:

• Stalling when 'cold' started in 70 degree temps. Rough idle.
• Breaking up before WOT. Seems to hit a wall then GO.
• At stop lights, foot buried will lurch forward/shake odd every few seconds. Doesn't seem to do it when held on a hill, and didn't do it before mods 7/27/2020 -> Will be doing Dodge's V86 recall for most current TCM/PCM flash to eliminate variables before sending the car down. Curt/Josh believe this will 99% be the fix. Otherwise may need to upgrade the converter.
• HP Tuner PCM may have Wideband mapping cal off if not a mechanical issue. -> Sent them an email.

Goals:

• Get the car 100%, clean up any sub-par installation - clean install - track safe.
• Finish Tuning with Dusterhoff LLC on 5" 93/E85 Flex and 4.5" E85 Race -> Confirm driveability.

Here is a picture sent end of last week saying the car is complete: (Nothing was touched but the fuel line, told me it had all new whipple lines that were ordered when it still had the temporary hoses I installed in the meantime. Exactly how it left my hands - No insulation on any coolant/A/C lines )

When i pointed out the parts not ordered and was not happy with how everything has been going all i got was negativity. Saying Whipple said it was cleanly installed clean blah blah....worked on million dollar cars and never had these many problems blah blah....you don't seem happy about much blah blah blah... (Great way to give a customer peace of mind and follow their work requested!!!)

Now that its snowing hard today 11/17/2020 salt trucks are coming out here in Upstate NY. My car isn't in storage still and will need to clean the entire under chassis when it gets driven back all the way from Long Island on summer performance tires, awesome!! If i had a million dollar car to be worked on i wouldn't let this place touch it with a 100 foot stick after this experience.

New goal get the car back ASAP to put into storage or sell. Seasons over. Complete disaster. Never E-Tuning or sending my car to a 'Friend' again. Trust in this industry is gone completely.

Wow .... Just wow . I really hope you can get this disaster fixed and the way YOU want it not how a shop thinks it should be . You are not asking for Crazy things and everything you ask for are 100% achievable.

I know of 3 or 4 that can get this done 100%

escape from these shit shops and get a real deal modern mopar shop.

This was supposed to be a real deal shop recommended by Dusterhoff tuning. Literally talked me out of sending the car to OST which was scheduled, kicking myself for that now since Micah was very responsive/detail oriented/picky about the work they do. Probably could have had it tuned in house there too vs. e-tuning.

Can't see sending it to a third shop with the last two shit shows+paying for tuning. Wasted way too much money on shipping/downtime/others mistakes. Really don't know what to do other than hope this place that has the car gets it right fast. If not may list it for sale..and probably never build/mod a car again. Spending $20k for a shit show is no fun.

Car will be back next Wednesday hopefully. They didn't order new whipple hoses or the airbox... Shop claimed whipple said airbox was back ordered etc. - Right after getting off the phone called whipple and had no issues if wanted to order one. Took a second look at the engine bay and it looks like the chiller lines are in the way now preventing installation of the airbox. Owner of shop said if i overnighted it he'd install for free.

It's really not how i wanted the engine bay. May order an airbox over winter and try to cut/modify around the line. Simply don't want the car in someone else hands anymore when basic stuff couldn't be done after months. This was all supposed to be done before the car was even finished being tuned too. 100% ruins all faith in the quality of work. Probably spent $300-$500 in shipping alone on peoples mistakes these past few months....

Final cost of labor $3200 to finish tuning/install chiller+new coolant reservoir (and not follow directions.) Said he was willing to deliver the car a few hours upstate which is something i guess.

Total cost to install this fucking whipple at two shops (without tuning) = $8000....... killed all interest in this hobby. Wish i never touched this car from stock as of now.

Dude I feel sorry for you and this shitshow . It's unfortunate that there are shops out there like that . Promise you the world and deliver a lump of dirt instead .

11/24/2020 -

I did not hear back from the shop owner after Friday saying he would send an invoice Monday with work broken down/pictures of chiller install. When tried to contact Tuesday no luck. Called the tuner who recommended to express concerns finally, low and behold when they contacted the shop pictures and a very vague invoice was sent.

When pointed out it needed insulation to prevent dripping at the tracks and it was mentioned before this is the reply I received.
"You didn't like the way the hoses were routed on top and you want that ugly insulation with zip ties on it man you are the most confusing customer i've ever had i got to be totally honest with you"

At that point the writing was on the wall. Right now I'm at a crossroads to spend more time/money sending it to a 3rd shop a member recommended which is not even a mile down the road or to have him deliver as it sits in hopes it's just insulation wrong - seems like a straight forward DIY.
- He cancelled the delivery tomorrow night telling me to come pick it up for some reason after the insulation was brought up - when i mentioned sending it to a shop down the road to get it right that really changed the narrative. Wants to drop it off ASAP now. IMO you should never be afraid of the work you've done being bashed/criticized if it's done right? I don't understand and am at loss for words at the whole situation.

Going to sleep on this. Have to make a choice tomorrow.

I imagine he’s probably jammed up this time of year. All this the day before Thanksgiving too! He’s just screwing you out of spite now. Otherwise just drag it home I guess. Decided to just call this fiasco to put the car in storage. Ordered insulation materials which will be here Friday. As long as the chiller was setup right shouldn't be hard to clean up. Definitely have fears the chiller system was rushed/not dialed in correct/installed wrong. Will have to comb through everything before having peace of mind. Pit in my stomach handing over $3200 for this level of work/customer service.

No surprise.. no update on delivering the car. (Was told 3 different times would deliver the vehicle, never asked once - also never had a shop deliver a vehicle to me..) I've always been a man of my word and this shit right here is one of my pet peeves. If you say you're going to do something - do it. Don't bullshit people around constantly you will lose all respect/customers. Started off saying would drive the car to his house a few hours away upstate then last week deliver to my address all the way from Bayshore, NY to Rochester, NY Wednesday night 11/26/2020. Attitude seemed to change when the insulation was brought up Tuesday said "I just caught the flu, i'm bed ridden no holiday for me either. Come get it tomorrow or Monday." When mentioned to take the car to the shop down the road changed to delivering the car again in fears of being bashed/criticized by the competitor. I told him i was fine until the flu/thanksgiving passed and to make sure it wasn't Covid. - Nothing since then but see lots of posts on his personal IG at the shop working on cars lmao

Need to figure out a way to get down there now with everything else in the world going on to save this car. Would be pretty simple if i could pay via paypal/credit card and have someone deliver but nope this guy wants cash only in person (Shady stuff and only tuning shop in 10 years to make these kinds of requests)

Dam shops I swear. Why can’t they just deliver what they promise and guarantee.
