Ok, so ended up playing musical drive shaft with the DSS, ended up taking it out and ordering a Wiles. During the wait swapped in just the Tranzilla, left stock clutch and bell in place for now. Wiles a nice piece but not a drop in with a Barton, had to mod the Barton to get it to clear but it’s doable and worth it, Barton shifts the Tranzilla nice. Took the spring out of the 5th 6th gate while it was out, definitely like it better with easier to get to 5th gear.
So the verdict on the 2.98, 2.10,1.40 with 3.73 and 28.5 OD tire?
First off my Nitto 315-35-20 05r’s where like Kojack’s head but where giving me consistent 11.6 street pulls would do nothing but spin spin spin, 12.3 street 1/4’s but it’s cooled off here and test area surface cold. And BTW installed blower insulator spacers and blankets while down so maybe making a bit more power as well as the car feels like an animal with this ratio but just can’t hook up. So put my only half worn out 275-30-20 ET Street SS’s on, well their totally worn out now as they spin even easier then the bald nitto’s did. So ordered a new set of 315 05r’s and put them on yesterday in anticipation of going to the track today and see if I could hook up on a sticky surface and see if this trans is a keeper or not. Well is 30F here at 8am and temps only predicted to be 40-44 at best at 3pm so we cancelled the 2 hour 1 way ride to the track
bummer.
But I did try a few pulls yesterday, but the area not peaceful on a Saturday afternoon so many rushed and aborted starts. Tires at first 32 psi, climbed to 39, no traction. Aired them down to 29 and was better, I usually run them at 26 on the street, didn’t get to test that low. Got 1 decider pass in, no burnout, 29 psi netted a 11.8 partial throttle in first and second and 2.3 60 ft’s so there’s lots to gain with better hook up, 1/4 speed was 132.6. The interesting data is G force. My usual street G’s in pulls .65-.7 max, .95 max seen at the track doing a 1.8 60 ft and a 3.1 0-60 with burnout 18 psi in the tires and good prep. Well street G’s are now a consistent .75 and saw a .91 with the new Nittos at 29 psi which has to be from the lower ratios. My boy riding passenger said it really throws you back into the seat more now, my 10 second Stang buddy said the same thing. Track data would have been really nice but unfortunately it’s too cold for such today
. ATCO coming up on the 15th, if weather is good maybe I’ll get there and get some track data but for now this is all I have.
.02 at the moment, Tranny staying in, G force increase tells me it’s a help. No more clutch slipping to get out of the hole, but now LOTS of throttle peddling which isn’t easy as when it does spin it’s revs VERY quick to redline, probably the super light weight Wiles DS helping there. It’s for sure more animalistic now, starting out in first normal driving is just let the clutch out and go, you can’t stall it. I May have my original redone with the 2.66, 1.99,1.40 combo over winter and see what it feels like but that’s not a cheap mod.
What would be great is if I could via tune limit throttle % by gear, it’s hard to consistently part throttle the car in first and second. Is this possible with any tuning software in the Hellcat PCM to do such?? I ask as I put it in 500 HP mode, launch MUCH easier but then 3 rd and 4 th had shit for power, netted a 12.8 at 114 in 500 HP mode but didn’t leave any expensive rubber on the road either.
