I’m familiar with his set up. I just want to see how many of us in here that put a Whipple in their cat.

I was one of the 1st to install a 4.5 Whipple on my car. I wouldn't do it. Find a Redeye S/C or wait for the Hellephant S/C to come out.

I started out with the 4.5 pulley then went to 4.25 then down to a 4.0. The problem is the Whipple makes so much torque down low that you have to pull a ton of power to keep from spinning the tires that it ends up hurting your et in the long run. My car has been running 9.50's for 2 years no mater what changes I make to the car. This is with full interior. Only a couple other cars have been faster than me at full weight. Yet I see full interior Redeyes running 9.20's and 9.30's in the heat of the day.

It would be a long list of all the mods I have done to my car. I was one of the guys doing a lot of RND work in the beginning of the hellcat era.

I’ve had no issues with my Whipple. The shop I’m working with has done dozens of pulleyed e85 Hellcats and a couple Whipples. Street driving mine, the consensus is that it drives better than the stock SC. It’s that responsive and just a pleasure to drive. That being said..... the tuner has to know what he’s doing. I’ll just leave it at that because everybody thinks their tuner knows what they’re doing. If you have a bad experience with your Whipple... he doesn’t. Heat management is important. It makes more and the pcm nanny doesn’t like that. For street driving... not a problem. For WOT performance on a track.... you need a supplemental cooling system. I’ve run both 1/4 and 1/2 mile at WOT now without IAT going over the 150 degree line. The 2.4 isn’t big enough for a built 426. The 2.7 is a lot better and a good choice if you can get one for a reasonable price. The 3.0 is a joke because you can’t buy one no matter how bad you might want it.

I agree with your comments. I was also one of the 1st guys to custom install the FI Chiller system on a Hellcat over 1 1/2 years ago. I’m with you on that partially.

The only thing about the whipple is that it does MPH better. So for street and half mile the whipple consistently has a better top end, the ability to run more boost helps out.

I have my opinion though. I think you need to start off on real low boost.

Just put the 4.75” pulley on the car and run it. You will have amazing power.

I take a lot of reference from shooting firearms. There’s no reason to buy a $15000 sniper rifle if you can’t personally shoot 1moa on your own. Train and get really good and then shoot the best rifle.

What I mean, is just get really good at driving the car. You don’t need it to have the fastest combo from the beginning. All your gonna do is a have a spin fest and have codes flying everywhere and every track event your just gonna be mad and frustrated not getting it right.

Start off easy and just race the car. It will be ridiculous fast even on low boost.

Then get your technique and skill down, build experience. Then when you got it all worked out and are consistent with what you are doing, start bringing the power in with smaller pulley combos.

Figure you have waited this long for your engine and this whole build, now that it’s done, start easy and build up.

You gotta be as good and as fast as the car. Otherwise your gonna be so frustrated.

I don’t want to come across that the Whipple is the end all of superchargers because I have one. At this time I think it’s the best bang for the buck for a big motor. I have barely over $5k in mine brand new with the big TB. I couldn’t even come close to that with either the 2.7 or KB. I can only imaging what the 3.0 is going to cost for at least two or more years to come. Plus I have become a pessimist when it comes to SRT’s hype on stuff like the Hellephant. Big hype with very limited production numbers. Has somebody said that the 3.0 is going to be different. If it is mass produced and can be had at competitive prices then I can always switch. Blower swaps are easy.

I have a few 1.39's but most are in the low 1.40's. I have demon springs, AAD suspension parts. Like I have said before the list of parts my car has is long.

I've had my stroked Whipple for almost 4 months now and I couldn't be happier with it. However, my perspective is a bit unique given that I'm tuning it myself while also doing as much of the mechanical work as I can in my own garage. The journey of working through and figuring out all the issues is part of the fun for me. It's still a work in progress today.

My full build list is listed on my dyno and 8.90 videos so check it out there.

Here are my best 3 time slips so far in 2400 DA.


And here's my dyno graph comparing my previous stock block IHI 2.50 + lower pulley setup vs the built stroker with a Whipple.

Thanks whip. Appreciate the advice. That’s the plan is to start with the 4.75 and learn the car. I’m at 14psi right now with the stock SC. I’m thinking with the Whipple and the larger pulley should put me around 17-18 psi with the 426.

Totally agree, supplemental cooling is a must though that also applies to aggressive pulley combo's like what I had before I did the swap.

For comparison, here are my IAT's and ICT's before with my old stock SC 2.50+lower configuration versus now with the Whipple.

All I have is a 1.25 gallon tank and Killer Chiller. I was going to enhance my setup with a trunk tank with more capacity or a 2nd Killer Chiller core but since what I have is working for me, I'm going to leave well enough alone.

@zhc - am I reading those graphs properly? Not sure I can extrapolate that if the ambient was the same for both blowers that the delta would get better or worse... Over time it looks like the IHI actually reaches some sort of equilibrium whereas the Whipple just keeps getting hotter.

If not excessive heat with the IHI, why go with the Whipple at all? I thought I read that the single largest limiting factor forcing people to go to bigger blowers was the very high temps when the blower is overspun. I don't think I'm seeing that in the data - at all. Is that possible?
