Just to be sure, what gauge wire did you use?
I extended the Power and Ground wires as needed in the trunk near the battery. I used whatever wire I had laying around but likely it is larger than the included wire with the unit. Maybe 18 ga. I think the wires only had to be lengthened about 12-14 inches. There are 2 ground studs near the battery. I double nutted the forward one for the ground. Also if you have a really old unit I would measure the overall width of the piggyback fuse spades and compare to the OEM fuse removed. Some were a lot wider and pushed the clips out of the fuse panel causing an issue and PITA repairs. I filed mine down to within .020" .

I've done it pulling the center console. The last couple I pulled the trim bezel around the radio and gauges and it was a bit easier.

As far as having the Zauto cable in the trunk, try logging from the OBD port in car ;)

I've never had an issue logging from the data port. I do not care for the bypass cable in the trunk as I like to log, revise and upload without having to get out of the vehicle, but that's personal. If I install the cable, I use the one from HPT, but I'm not going to add that one to a car with one in the trunk, I just deal with the inconvenience. I have, however, never had an issue using VCM scanner from the OBD port

I bought a long USB cable, about 10 feet and ran it from the ZAutomotive double bypass along the inside of the passenger door and up onto the passenger seat. There it just plugs into the laptop. I think I got a 10 ft USB cable, a little longer would give a bit of flexibility.

Honestly, scared the crap out of me to pull the dash apart, so the HP Tuners bypass cable is still sitting in it's box. Some day I'm sure I'll install it.

Where did you plug it in at the ZAutomotive double bypass?

No problem we’re all learning! Some just don’t want to admit it. HP tuners has a 6’ cable available that’s the one I’m getting.

Thr MVPI2 is plugged into the double bypass in the trunk. The USB cable is plugged in there and routed up to the passenger seat. I just leave the MVPI2 plugged in all the time right now, since I'm still learning about logging and reading the log. I just log about everytime I'm in the car.

Just a heads up using a longer cable for the MPVI

my newest laptop uses a usb-c plug instead of a standard usb plug. I bought a longer cable and it wouldn't transfer data fast enough. I kept having issues. So if you need a longer cable, make sure you get one that is for data transfer. I guess a lot of the cheaper ones are just for charging phones

It would just stop while logging, while reading instead of the usual 9 min it would show 240+ min to read. Sometimes the time will bounce around anyway, but it actually seemed like it was going to take 6+ hours to read. Sometimes wouldn't write, sometimes would abort itself during a write

That sounds frustrating. I'll keep an eye out for that. Thanks!!

Since I'm buying the HP cable I would assume it's qualified for data transfer.

@jgilj Let me know how this works out. I’m considering going this route.
Thanks
