Yea I have to find out and research extensively what to do to keep the vermin out.

Gonna talk to Jim today and get an update on everything as far as if thats all the damage and how much this is going to cost.

Wow. I've heard about this all my life (rats and squirrels and things chewing the wiring) but I've never personally encountered it. Sorry you could to experience it. Most folks say "it's a country thing" and you're living in the biggest city in the land and there you go. While it sucks, look at it this way - you're guy found the problems, pretty easy to fix (comparatively); could have been much worse.

Glad you'll be back in action again soon.

Wow. I've heard about this all my life (rats and squirrels and things chewing the wiring) but I've never personally encountered it. Sorry you could to experience it. Most folks say "it's a country thing" and you're living in the biggest city in the land and there you go. While it sucks, look at it this way - you're guy found the problems, pretty easy to fix (comparatively); could have been much worse.

One question for you guys who have experienced this: How long did the car sit? Is it often there for a week plus? Or had this happened to your daily?

My son lives in Pittsburg...(suburban setting..)..his next door neighbor had a new Cherokee that fell prey to critters...(very expensive dealer re wiring)...my son figured he'd take a look under the hood of his "23" Ram1500...(both are DD and parked outside in the driveway)...sure enough,,,same thing...apparently there is some type of soy based material used in the wire covering that vermin enjoy

Had a squirrel /mouse problem a few years ago on an open barn type building.Luckily only the acoustic cladding was damaged.

I've lost a trailer wire or 2, but that's out of dozens of vehicles... and the trailers were the only thing parked in the weeds. I've had tractors out there go untouched for decades.
One of our many blessings... the critters have better things to do around here

I enjoy watching this guy with my kids... the best way to get rid of them - natural predators - INFESATION of Rats vs Mob of Mink and Dogs

Also, the evolution of this relationship is incredible - a trained lizard for hunting rats - Raptor Training: 1st Week

The wire insulation in most new cars is made from soy. The critters can smell it and love to chew on it. Soy might be a good insulator, but as far as critters are concerned they just as well use cheese as wiring insulation.

My Bobcat is over 20y old, never been indoors, not a single problem with chewed wires even though it is a mouse and chipmunk Club Med. It really does look like the mfrs have found a new way to incorporate planned obsolescence, or at least a new profit center.
