My friends Ioniq had to be towed 4 hours away for a recall, if that means it had to be towed for a software update, that's even worse.

I've been in a couple EVs. Mentioned my neighbor is on future vehicle development so he's got different competitor cars in his driveway all the time. Rivian truck was the last one. Fast but soulless. I was shocked how quick, but we launched it on a back road a half dozen times and it got old pretty quick, once the novelty wears off you have a $100K soulless vehicle with a lot of compromises. Nothing about an EV appeals to me and I don't wanna be lumped in with the man bun skinny jeans crowd that own them around here. I'll keep my 20 year old 4Runner for commuting.

Oddly my neighbor was all EV is the future 2 years ago, now he's saying that's passed and hydrogen is the next thing.

Not sure how one takes a huge loss on a EV, so far I have saved over 35K and the savings keep coming.
Trade in values are in the toilet.

My savings is approaching the cost of one of the EV's so if the trade in value is terrible it really doesn't matter. In summary, the ownership cost makes up for any diminished trade value (if there is one), imo.

If a tesla model 3 is purchased for 27K (after $ 7,500 tax credit) how much can you lose on trade versus the savings over 50 or 100,000 miles of ownership (tremendous savings in energy source and maintenance). Plus, in many states there is no sales tax.

As many have pointed out, this is current situation, maybe all the credits and electrical savings disappear in a couple of years which paints a different picture.

Many states are looking at a mileage tax on EV's to recoup the gas tax they're losing.

The credits are a little misleading as well though. There are income limits, like ineligible over $150K/yr, if the MSRP is more $55K and up (a lot are and why OEMs have dropped prices recently), and other limitations. Not to mention these credits are paid with our tax dollars which really pisses me off.

Here in TN legislation was recently passed tripling license plate renewal fees for EVs to recoup lost gas tax revenue. A few years ago there may have been some decent financial benefits, but I think those are being phased out.

To qualify for the tax credit, your modified adjusted gross income cannot exceed a certain threshold: $150,000 for single filers, $225,000 for heads of households and $300,000 for married couples. You can qualify based on your income for the year you take delivery of the vehicle or the year before.
^^^ had to look it up because $150k didn’t sound right to me.

I have zero faith in believing that with the current state of global politics that reversing anything is easy.

Stop complying and things will change instead of being a subservient citizen.

I was on a flight recently and the guy next to me said that he might be in the c I a. I told him that I was a patriot and I'm serious.

Do you have the balls to say this?
All day long...my wife admonishes me every day..."you cant talk to people the way you do"...yeah?...Bullshit I cant...I live in MY America...not theirs..;)

Jack,

Thanks for the accurate information.

An EV car is not investment, just like any other vehicle, enjoy it, use it and when it is worn out or out of warranty, get another one. From a financial standpoint it is a slam dunk (at the present time).

Nope, the credits are increasing, not going away. FYI- the KW reduction from my utility company was 2 cents a KW, starting in June of this year it is now 10.5 cents.

Speedy, just drive one for the weekend, then tell me how bad they are.

I have no interest in them. I can't get past the styling much less all the other compromises. Hybrid would have made much more sense but o'l Joe knows best. They can't make a battery that lasts for my cell phone, no way I'm gonna invest $50K in something battery powered that basically a total loss when the battery goes flat.

Closest I'd ever get is a C8 E-Ray or a Porche 918. The Vette would worry me as I'm betting we see electrical gremlins from those.

I live very close to a Nissan plant and used to see Nissan Leafs around here. I can't tell you the last time I saw one and a friend of mine that works for Nissan told me they had a whole marketing campaign around what to do to convince EV buyers that the cars were throw away like an appliance and just get a new one every 5 yrs. That hasn't gone over very well here. Maybe a lease program for those that think of cars as appliances would work better but then the OEM is eating the cost of new batteries, recycling, etc. It's just completely impractical no matter how much people try to convince themselves otherwise.

The incentives are going away. Go read the IRS website on them (where I got the $150K figure). I can't speak to any charging incentives, but that's more to keep them off the power grid during peak times than anything else. Eventually you'll be paying an "EV Charging Fee" on your electric bill, I guarantee that.

EVs are for some. Most people that want to get from point A to point B are fine with them. There are others that have zero interest. Having them forced on people makes it that much harder to accept them. Some of us want to live in a world we can make our choice and not feel like we don't have one. They say the ICE group is small and doesn't matter but sales have shown a different story. Getting to the point I can't afford to buy a new car anyway so for me and others there will be plenty of used ICE cars to buy. Buying a used EV is not going to be much of a thing because once the battery goes you will be buying a different car. There will be lots of stories in 5-10 years of all the batteries piling up

Agreed..in the years ahead...It's going to be a REAL mess...Manufactures building cars for a small segment..dealer networks with inventory that wont sell...charging dilemmas....residual issues...insurance issues...not to mention the Government in this up to their eyeballs...(we all know how that works)...it may not seem like a big deal now...just wait till the party starts...but then..what do I know right?;)

Cole,

This is a hardcore muscle board. And most have their opinions made up (facts, data, be damned). I think politically EVs are here to stay (very difficult for some to swallow, yet still true). I think they are quite good for most ppl. Commute of 50mi or less, A to B, etc. For performance? I will take a HARD pass. Why? Not because they are slow. The Plaid is a beast, numbers-wise. However, I want my fun cars to have noise, smell, and vibrate. THAT is where you are unlikely to get converts, especially here.

Why people are so belligerent on this forum is because they are MAD that NEW SCs ALL ICE V8s are gone. Forever. "Wishcasting" them back into existence won't happen no matter how hard ppl pound their keyboards, lol.

Hmmm...sounds like you have some hardcore opinions of your own...(facts notwithstanding)...I wouldn't consider any posts or opinions as belligerent...amazing the way you always seem to know what people think...and why...and what is...and is not going to happen....I haven't been this inspired by a Forum member since PaVa. Steeler moved to Istanbul :giggle::giggle:;)

I m curious
With all the climate change gibberish going on
Has anyone ever seen a political motorcade using EV s ?
I have not

I know our mentally limited failed as a drama teacher leader is carted around in the worst gas guzzling vehicles made as he flies in circles around the planet
in his private jet talking about what we all need to do to help the planet / climate
His idea to save the world is to create yet another tax to generate revenue to offset his Liberal vote buying platform
Thankfully his days are numbered

What a gearbox
