Does the Kestrel need to be calibrated? Looking at the data there is no way DA was 3000. Air temp says 82 with 36% humidity with a barometer reading of 29.9 and track elevation of 200 ft

Here is one thing I want to bring up . With the kestrel it is at the location with you . Where are the stations the apps are using ? 30 miles away ? 100 miles away ? Math calculations ? I can tell you first hand I have seen a 2F difference in temp a half mile away .

That is my point. It was not 82f.
The thermometer in the car read 97f , the kestral was a bit higher at the same time.
The thermometer on the restaurant read 36c so about 98f.
Yes it can be sent in to be calibrated. They say no need to for 5yrs. Mine is a week old.
My last run at 1:20 reads 101.8f
humidity at 22%
vapor pressure 29.72
Baro 29.84
Grains 65.5
Da at 3180

At 10.30 when I made my first pass it was 89f
Humidity 51.9
Grains 99.7
Da 2454
This does not match up with air density online.
The 10.30 info is more inline with what the app has for later in the day

First off had a great day with Mike. I have to thank him for getting me out to the track.
As usual while swapping front wheels. Passers by asked the usual "what will it run?". After checking the da I figured 10.8's, judging by the last outing.
The first pass was 10.71. Fluke?
Next pass 10.73 so I guess not. Best of the day was a 10.67@130 and the 10.73 was the worst. What is surprising is the weather at the time. Plus I didn't want to be around if they decided to give everyone a hard time.

So the police were on premises and the track was told they had 3hrs to clear out the spectators. So they made the ones that wanted to stay register to race and make a pass.
I don't know how that worked out because I left early because of the heat.
@Mean Cat and @Marc W this DA info should be interesting to you.
My Kestrel read 2600 to 3200' during the day.
I am showing the kestrel as well as the track app DA from around 1:15. I did not take a screenshot of ADO or TRC apps.🤦‍♂️
So the track had DA at 1636'
TRC had it at 2150
Air Density Online had it at 2100'
The Kestrel read 3262'
The apps had the temps in the mid 80's more or less. My car read mid-high 90's and the Kestrel was around 100f at that time.
Interesting at home TRC and the kestrel read very close to each other. So close I questioned my purchase of the Kestrel.
The results are very similar to what we found last year with @Hpindy on his Kestrel.
The apps read about 1000' and his kestrel was 1900-2100'.

That's what I have wondered all along.
It has always been out to lunch compared to every other means of info.

For this very reason I never use it in the direct sunlight . I always use it in a shaded area ( like under a pop up shelter )

I had it in the shade. Only put it there for the pic. The DA may be 50ft off at most for the time it was on the dash at the pillar. Maybe 30 seconds at most before I took the pic.

Just didn't think even the DA calculators would be all over. Drag times DA yesterday at 131 was showing 2400-2600. I talked to 2 people and they were telling me 3000 and 3700. The later seems way off being it was 79 degrees at that time

I didn't know how old your Kestrel was is why I asked about it being calibrated but I would think it was working fine being new
I was told the air temp for apps are used by the nearest airport so if one is close it may be more accurate but still doesn't explain why they are all different

Just a new thing to make my head hurt

After 1.5 years of head hurting going over this I decided the same.
Next weekend Hpindy should be here at my track. We will be comparing the 2 against each other and the apps. I fully expect a difference between his and mine. Curious by how much. This should be fun.🤣🤣

One thing I should mention. A part of the reason for the Kestrel for me is instant weather change info. I have been bracket racing for a new challenge. Having this info up to date can help me figure out what I will likely run. Practice in the morning can have different et's than in eliminations at 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Then if the finals are in the evening that changes things also. I can guess the changes by how much time the car has to cool but without the other info. It doesn't always work out as planned.

I figured I would see what it read here being close to the airport an d actually being on the island. It is close enough for me to validate the Kestrel.
